About Verification and Validation Symposium 2018

VERIFICATION AND VALIDATION SYMPOSIUM, MINNEAPOLIS, MAY 16-18, 2018

Announcing the large-scale symposium dedicated entirely to the emerging field of verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification of computer simulations. This unique event will bring together engineers and scientists from all disciplines that use computational modeling and simulation to discuss and exchange ideas and methods for verification of codes and solutions, simulation validation, and assessment of uncertainties in mathematical models, computational solutions, and experimental data. The week starts with 2 optional two-day training seminars followed by the 3-day V&V Symposium.

Practicing experts in diverse disciplines are invited to submit abstracts on this emerging field. Share your expertise and leadership, gain recognition, and showcase your organization's work by presenting at this leading conference in this rapidly evolving area.

Abstracts are solicited on uses, methods, and research of verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification in all engineering and scientific computing disciplines. Individuals who would like to participate in the presentation-only sessions should submit an extended 400-word abstract addressing formal aspects of V&V, such as:

  • Code Verification - quantitative comparison of benchmark or analytic solutions to selected code outputs, methods for determining order of convergence codes, and application of techniques such as the Method of Manufactured Solutions
  • Solution Verification - numerical error estimation of system response quantities of interest, analysis of convergence and error due to incomplete convergence
  • Validation - definition and use of metrics for comparing experiment to simulation, formalism of statement of a validation criterion, demonstration of the application of validation metrics, and design and execution of validation experiments
  • Uncertainty Quantification - methods for quantification of uncertainties in experimental data and computational outputs, range or coverage of uncertainties, methods for application of uncertainties in model assessments, and predictive uncertainty for different types of model extrapolation
