PLANT RETIREMENT: COMPREHENSIVE PROJECT EXECUTION, LESSONS LEARNED, LEXINGTON, FEBRUARY 12-13, 2019
Environmental regulations have been a major force in changing the landscape of coal powered generation. Besides regulations, the economic influences of less demand and natural gas prices have further caused non-critical and aging plants to become no longer economically viable.
This annual conference will provide owners with the next step in the plant closure process by sharing vital information and lessons that have been acquired by the generation owners in this program. A separate preconference workshop will look at one option for a future use of closed sites in discussing Solar Development on Coal Ash Brownfields, while the conference will wrap up with a tour of East Kentucky Power Cooperative’s Dale Power Station followed by a separate post-conference workshop on the comprehensive planning and process that goes into closing a facility.
